I'm certain he said he was 41 in another post :?:

Anyway, dig those ski leashes, fancy being tied to your skis?

Could be telemarking. Pinheads still wear leashes. Steve Irwin ) made a short (9 mins) film about them....

Nope, no pinheads here. That was before ski brakes were common or even invented.
If there is no skiing in Heaven, I am staying here....

Amazingly I still see the occasional skier with pre-brake bindings on ancient skis. Like winning a day at Silverstone and taking a Morris Miner to drive. cue post from Dave Mac....

For the International users -a Morris Minor

Trencher, this is a searching suggestion, but I confess not many miles from the truth. I did part own a Morris Oxford, same style. It died on the M1, when the big ends went. My mate Pete, (he who introduced me to Niederau), lectured me about putting ordinary oil into the engine, when I clearly ought, he said, to have used tractor oil.

Early days, I drove with Pete to Niederau in an old Victor 101. The starter motor packed up on the way back, and Herbert Thaler, the famous Bichlwirt harpist, helped to push the said car onto the Calais~Dover ferry.

Pete and I started the Trans-Pennine Ski Club, running ski trips from Manchester to Cairngorm. (Also. later Leeds to Cairngorm) A 13 hour overnight coach trip on Friday night. Ski all day Saturday. Have fun on Saturday night. Ski all Sunday. Drive overnight back to Manchester Monday, arriving 7.00am. Straight to work.

Many marriages were initiated on these ski trips, together with some that ermm, they just practised.

My first ever car was a Morris Minor, called Bessie. Many, many years ago now. That was when about two quids worth of petrol would last all week. Those were the days.

and the workout with the starting handle in winter time could give aches that lasted all week too.

Now there's an interesting subject. My first winter in Minnesota 94, I was suprised to find modern cars have few problems starting in temps down to -30C and even -40C and even fewer nowdays. The newer batteries and electronic ignitions help I think. Also at those temps there is no moisture to cause problems. No one uses engine block heaters any more. Seat heaters are essential if you have leather seats. Remote starting is common. Rather nice to be able to press a button while eating breakfast, then go out to a warm car.
