I am thinking of going skiing next week at Val thornes, do you think that i am mad, and waisting time and money,

I only started to ski last year and just cant wait any longer.

Have you checked to see if there will be any lifts running, and that there are any hotels/apts open for rental?

Tignes, is open and might be a better bet if you want to ski that part of France.

well its 15% open at the moment and if more snow falls they will open more.

tignes I suspect that only the Glacier is open, and I need blue runs

Actually i think it be open the same time as Val d'isere which is open this weekend. Also Tignes is suppose to have the best snow in europe at the moment. i think

Honest opinion?

Yes. You're mad. Save your money and wait for better snow and later season. It hard to be patient once the bug has got you, but it will be well worth it. I would not go next week if I were you.

I have a feeling the OP may be limited on time due to the snap decision. There is skiing in Europe right now, you just need to decide what you want. If it's picture postcard then Canada might be best plan. But if it's the sport, exercise and variable conditions then no need for trans-Atlantic.
