Data roaming has become much more affordable over the last year.Most operators now offer EU data plans.
O2 = £1.99 for 25mb per day.
Orange = £3 for 30mb per day.
No charge if you do not use it.
O2 also charge a one off connection fee for voice calls and then the duration of the call comes from your normal contract mins.

That is for a different zone mate, europe is:
24 hours 2MB £0.50
24 hours 100MB £2.00
7 days 250MB £12.50
30 days 1GB £25.00
250mb for a week is VERY good value.

I'm with Orange (which now seems to be called EE) on Pay as you Go. I don't have an internet phone and generally speaking I only use my phone for texting, which costs me £7-50 per month here in the UK.
These are their basic charges for using my mobile in France:
If I send a text from France to the UK (or to one of the group in France) it will cost me 8 pence per message, but nothing to receive one.
But if I phone the UK (or one of the group in France) it will cost me 28 pence per minute, and if I receive a call it will cost me 7 pence per minute.
I do usually buy a 'bundle' ahead of time, for the phone calls. If I pay £5-00 I can get 30 minutes of phone calls spread over a month, and this is supposed to work out at a discount of 40%.
I buy this because I phone my husband every day whilst I'm on a ski holiday, just to let him know that I'm OK :D
Has anyone else got any more useful tips on this subject?

Orange is NOT EE totally.
Orange still exists and all orange customers are still contracted to Orange with their associated plans.
Your phone will however show the EE logo as orange 3G now runs on the EE4g network.
Orange customer can however migrate fully to EE if they wish and switch to their plans.
So, if you signed up with orange you need to refer to their charges.
If you signed up to EE then you refer to theirs.
Hope this helps.

were you change to an Android mobile, Orange do a contract offer of £7 per month. At the time I took this out, you could also get £60 cash back on Quidco. So a 12 month contract, allowing heaps of texts/calls/internet usage, cost me £24.00.
I think the Quidco offer is reduced now, to about £30.00. Still a good deal.
