I would have thought that should be the very bare minimum anyway.

Everyone should be doing 20 mins minimum a day every day to keep a reasonable level of fitness up. That 20 mins should mean getting short of breath to qualify.

i do not do any real real exercise apart from being on my feet at work for 12 hours a day.
I manage to get through a six day family holiday ok, ski weekend breaks tend to be a bit different, tend to ski a lot harder without kids in tow and I certainly feel the difference in the aches and pains after a full day.
A hot bath and a couple of beers normally kill or cure.

If you're on your feet all day, the 20mins doesn't even come into it. You'll be fitter than someone sitting at a desk all day and doing 20mins aerobic exercise a day in my opinion.

When I was a student and worked in bars, I didn't have much time for exercise but the constant rushing around meant that I was probably fitter than I am now doing a lot more exercise - it's just less sports specific. I couldn't have rode my race bike at uni like I can now but I could have tried my hand at other sports without feeling unfit if you know what I mean.

I read somewhere that traffic wardens burn 2,500 calories on an 8 hour shift and they are not doing any strenuous exercise - they are just active all day every day. I hate sitting at a desk all day - although I'm not sure the job of traffic warden is calling me.

Traffic Wardens burn that many calories running away after ticketing cars and irate people chasing them!! That is a career not worth considering... the only thing worse is a car clamper !
