Telescopic poles already exist, don't they?
We had some in Val T from the ski hire. They're fine until you lean on them. Then they tend to collapse without much effort. Got fed up readjusting one or other.

Extending poles could use one of those small CO2 capsules to extend or retract...
They'd have a point on the end and could extend rather quickly. Could be useful when dealing with Frenchmen in lift queues or for making a point to boarders sitting in a line across a piste...

They do where I live!!
Just come back from the thinkin factory. I think everyone was on strike as output was low. Might have to work double time I'm the weekend!! :)
