...My husband has broken his toe

Well he doesn't know for sure that it's broken but it is swollen, black and quite sore. It's the one next to his little toe.

Has any one ever been skiing with a broken toe or no someone who has, or is it unlikely that he'll be able to ski. he is saying that he'll not go if he can't ski!

Gotta be one for your doc I think...

If the doc's ok then the deciding factor will be whether your husband can get comfortable in a ski boot. Does he have his own boots?

Yeah, he has his own boots...They are very comfy (normally) as he had them fitted by a good ski boot fitter.

I would get an xray, just to know what's going on. Although stubbing a toe badly is extremely painful, I seem to remember when I broke some toes thirty odd years ago, it was even more painful. I have snowboarded with a badly stubbed toe (black and blue, and xrayed to be sure). That was in soft snowboard boots which can have a little more room for toes. I remember taping the next toe to the injured one together for suport, taking a few Ibuprophen and not having a problem. Could be that if ski boots are a problem, it might be fun to try snowboarding rather than miss out completely.

I'm going to make him go to the hospital for an xray tomorrow. Knowing it is not broken (if it's not) will make a big difference psychologically when skiing. Aside of that, he is a bit of a hypocondriac and I couldn't bare to put up with him for six weeks harping on about a 'broken' toe when it might not be!

I broke my big toe, many years ago, dropped a frozen turkey on it. The whole of my foot went black and it was incredibly painful. At AandE they just taped big toe and second toe to-gether. No way would I have been able to ski. Several years ago I broke my little toe, stubbed it while surfing it bruised and was a bit painful but nothing that Ibuprofen did'nt sort. I suspect its not so bad with the smaller digits but the big toe a lot more probs.
I would definately get Xrayed to confirm and hopefully all will be well in a week. Keep the Ibuprofen going and try some arnica to bring out the bruising.
I'm a laydee
