I've just booked to go to Niederau for the first time. We're intermediate boarders and hoping for good conditions. Any tips for good bars or the best pistes? Any flat spots to avoid??

Johnrobbo,
Some friends of mine have just returned from a week boarding in Niederau. They have been several times, and are good intermediates (can cope okay with black runs). They seem to spend a lot of time in Auffach (if I have spelt it right) which I believe you get to on the free bus.

I haven't been there myself, but I believe there is about 70 km of piste, and it's only about a 12 minute drive from Hopfgarten which connects with the whole skiwelt area of over 250 Km of piste.

I hope you have a great time :D

Ally

So how many miles of piste are there, because I can't find out as they only seem to quote figures for the whole area and not just "N", is there a reason for that ?

Hi Gang
Many thanks to all of you who have replied to my request - it sounds like we'll have a great time, but then what's not to like about a week's holiday in the snow!
Hope you all have great safe skiing/boarding/blading this season
John

The Dorfstub'n is a good local drinking hole, it opens about 8.30pm and is open until around 4am. If not then the cave bar which is under the hotel Staffler is also good for a beer or 10 and is also open until about 4am.
Apres ski is easy to come by and there are a few bars at the bottom of the slopes (Gunters Bar) is probably the most lively of these and is across the road from the gondola station.
See you on the piste!!!

Pete, I was of course being sarcastic about the 3 miles of piste. I forgot it actually has a massive "25 miles" as you have quoted. Personally, for 3 days when I went, I was not enough and got very boring. I spent time over at Auffach because at least it got more sun and had a few more runs to go at. There is virtually nothing at Oberau to ski either.

I do not have a chip on my shoulder, quite the opposite in fact. I've been there, I didn't like it, and I would never go back. It just amazes me how many people find it a good place to ski, but then we all want different things from our ski time don't we?

I hope John has a good holiday, but I also reckon he'll be better linking into the Skiwelt circuit not far away.
