Elastic bands covered in garlic butter... yuk..

My labrador is fond of elastic bands but I've never considered cooking them for him.
Unless you have had the (dubious) pleasure of watching your dog sprint around the park trying to get away from the lump of poo that keeps twanging back and hitting him in the butt then you have no idea why this made me spit my coffee across the laptop and in my boyfriends ear!

Try Solden - loads of reds and blues and 2 glaciers, quiet end of the village and plenty of apres too. Your pass covers you for one day in Obergurgle (extra 10 euros). We fly drive (Lufthansa into Munich) so that we can choose our accommodation.

Not strictly true. If you get up at a decent time and get to the Penken Gondola for 8.15 you wont have a problem. Also, get off before 4pm or have a late beer up the top and come off at 5.30.
Alternatively, go up the Horberg Gondola, no queues there every time I've used it. Same at Finkenberg.
You have to have back up plans.

Skiing off.....well you can go across to Eggalm and ski down to Finkenburg and get the bus into Mayrhofen from there to avoid the gondola down.

Or go up the Ahorn in the afternoon and ski the one and only run into Mayrhofen top to bottom for a real burn. We used to ski all over and take the Ahorn cable car up at about 3.30pm for a beer at the top and a blast down.

Thanks for the advice. We're staying next to the Penken gondola so will try to get there early like you suggest - though we're not normally early birds!! Have been looking on youtube & the area looks fabulous. Are the buses reliable & regular to get around on? Will we need it to get to the Ahorn & Finkenberg?

Scarletgirl if you are staying next to the Penken gondolla then if memory serves me right you are about no more than a 5 minute walk from the big Ahorn cable car. When I went with a group of families of mixed ability alot of them used this as their base camp as the pistes at the top were great for those developing their confidence. The lower pistes down to the town were a good run. If you are not the early birds then and the Penken gondolla is busy, good idea to go up the Ahorn first. That being said the runs up on the Penken are very good. The Penken gondolla 2 thirds up goes across between 2 mountains and there is quite a drop below it which gave me the heebey geebiess!! Yes i know i should man up. Some loved the view down, for me it was pull my hat over my eyes!!
You will have a great time.
