Alcohol abstaination is against the law where I come from I am afraid.

Nothing wrong with bread, so long as it's 100% whole wheat. Best clue as to how healthy it is, is to look at the fibre value. If it's at least 8% RDA fibre per slice, it can be a very healthy part of your diet. Carbs are good, so long as they are good carbs. The idea is not to spike your glycemic index. When your glycemic index gets high after eating simple carbs, like sugar, and refined flour foods, your body has nothing to do with the excess glucose, but turn it into fat. Complex carbs take longer to digest, so glucose levels don't spike. The other benefit to foods that digest slowly, is the the body never gets hungry. Hunger is the trigger for the body to store fat.

A lot of fibre in the diet is also thought to have other beneficial effects on body fats, as well as being good for the digestive system it's self.

Interestingly, pasta when cooked al dente, is slow to digest. So doesn't spike the glycemic index.

The best way to loose weight is to eat little, and often. Just has to be the right foods. You'll lose more weight, eating that granola bar between meals, than if you let your self get hungry.

There is one major drawback to a high fibre diet......

The 'drawback' - would that be the equivalent of reeling back in a turtle's noggin ... :-o

Right, that's my juvenile posting for today out of the way, back to maturity ...
I decided to have a life change and be more spontaneous. Starting tomorrow.

"reeling back in a turtle's noggin"

Alas if a turtle's head is showing there's a little more substance to it than just air...

Aah ha. Being very regular is a benefit I can attest to.

I am certainly well aquainted with the side affects. Also, I would not normally lose weight at 3kgms a week. But in just over two weeks time, I will be meeting up with all the old farts that I shared my early seasons with ~ all pretending that none of these two weeks will be the least bit competitive.
I figure if I can lose 10% of my bodyweight, that will be 10% less force on my dodgy knee.

One guy is preparing by cycling round Mexico. Another by walking round New Zealand's South Island.

And the women are all desperate to reinstate their body shapes to early 1970 levels.....

Dave Mac,
That's why I didn't go to my old school reunion. I could just imagine everyone eyeing each other up to see who was the fattest, most wrinkly, unfit etc. Best of luck with the 'beauty' contest

And Trencher, I eat masses of fibre - brown rice, brown bread, muesli, loads of fruit and vegetables, and normally no bicuits or cakes etc. (except at Christmas - my downfall).

Back to getting fit for ski-ing - I only have 4 days left to diet and get fit

Now is the time to stop the diet and fitness regime. Eat properly and rest your body before you depart :D
