Most times, it is fantasy to plan a same day fly & ski in central Europe, and hope to get more than a couple of hours meaningful skiing, diy or TO.
It is theoretically possible to fly/ski Zermatt, but it wouldn't make any sense. al benefit of diy, is that you could get a Friday pm flight, train up to Zermatt, arriving late. Ski eight and a half days, and catch a train/late flight back on the Sunday.
Cost, on a 7 day costing, the exhange rate is a bit different from what I thought: Rail 200 SwF =£125, 3* Hotel 420Fpp = £262
Total £387.
Add £15/night food, under £500
There are 2 *hotels at half of the above price.
