Rose,
That's awful - about the cricket ball I mean, but it's also not so good about the fuel.
Have you noticed how this wibble thread seems to have become the bad news thread!
I was just thinking to myself, how is my daughter supposed to learn to drive over Easter if there's no fuel anywhere?
How long is this supposed to be going on for?

You see, thats the problem. There is nothing "going on". There is NO STRIKE, no warning of an impending strike in the next 7 days but people decide to panic buy!! That in turn causes reduced stocks of fuel, then people buy more again to make sure they dont miss out!
Stupid really, just relax everything will be fine 8) 8) 8) 8)
-- unfortunately if it was something enforced just verbally [i.e. over the phone when the guy called in sick], then no investigation will reveal anything :( ... so, in such case all we can hope is that the guilty parties will bear the heavy burden of guilt for the rest of their lives and maybe will try to do better deeds in the future!
Regarding the situation with the fuel (described as "STRIKE" by some of you, or "nothing going on / NO STRIKE" by Iceman): God forbid something like that would happen here in the US, where unless you live-&-work in one of the major cities, it is pretty much impossible to get around without having your own car, especially since so many people have long commutes to work... Even for those living in suburban areas and riding the trains to work in a large city, they still need cars to get from their homes to the train stations! (This lack of public transportation was one of the aspects that surprised me the most when I moved here back in '91).
It's scary how dependent we are on the limited-supply oil-based fuel for transportation, heating, etc; I really hope some other alternative [and reliable] fuel solution will become soon available, because the thought of getting close to the time of running out of the current supplies (even if far in the future) is quite stressful!
Sorry had to get this off my chest! Thats right nothing was going on until the Government played their normal political games with the situation. How irresponsible!! Now they are saying the political card is being played about the poor women who was burnt in the accident. Well had they the(Government) acted in a more balanced and responsible way from the outset then this incident would not have happend.

Are they clever or just stupid ??? ....... extra 40 mill in tax back in the coffers
Good point Ian, but this has damaged any credibility that they may have had. To think we have people like this running the Country- no diplomacy in sight -god help us.

Far Queue wrote:Snapzzzz, I agree that the thought of it is gut wrenching. It is sad that we can even think that someone "had" to come to work even if ill. I hope there is a full enquiry and if anything comes out in the wash, then the guilty parties are held fully accountable.
