March/April

Make your mind up and you can get a decent recommendation!

EG early March, try Serre Chevalier.
For April it needs to be high up, so Obergurgl, Verbier, Zermatt or Val Thorens. I'd personally suggest Verbier having been there early April 2008.

I'm not sure these two events are mutually exclusive Wickers.

Well one of them at least is exclusive to me

Personally I would not PLAN to go somewhere at 1200m in April. However, if like you I had the flexibility to be able to ski at 1200m if and when the conditions permitted me to then I most definitely would join you.
I hope that explains the difference between living over here and planning ahead for a holiday, and living abroad and being able to abuse the weather and facilities to your pleasure!
