I first got the bug following the great Franz Klammer on the TV and then the 76 Olympics where he won the downhill gold medal at Innsbruck just took my breath away took me some time to save up but went on my first ski holiday to Italy two years later in 78.

My Mum learned to ski, I can't remember where, but she went ski-ing later in Obergurgl in 1950 when she was a student.
And when I was 7 our house burned down, and we all had a pretty traumatic time (none of us got burnt though), and I think that's why my Mum decided to take us all on a ski-ing holiday to Italy when I was 8 (even my Dad eventually came, although he wasn't at all keen on the idea). But I actually learned to ski on the dry slope at Alexandra Palace in North London, before we went. And I loved it right from the first moment.
I went again with the school when I was 11, and then not for 30 years until I went with my two girls.

Ian,
No I'm not 41, because it's 6 years since I first took my daughters ski-ing, and consequently I am 47.
Eljay, my Mum was a G.P. and my Dad was/is an antiquarian bookseller. But like pretty much everyone in the world, my ancestors on both sides were farmers.
