I was in the same position three years ago. I'd recommend choosing your skis on the basis of having worn them for a couple of days at least. Our hire shop gave me a discount if I bought after renting, and were helpful about trying different types every day ('though not all seem to be - some just want to rent to as m any as possible). What I found was that I simply couldn't relate the magazine reviews to the skis in question - all those I'd read rave reviews about (or which were recommended by a UK shop) just didn't seem to suit me when I actually tried them. So find a resort shop which is happy to let you try different ones out and try them out.

I decided that I could not wait any longer to own my own skis so bought myself a pair of new Atomic Izor 9:7 168cm.I bought them on american e bay for $299,which worked out really cheap because the dollar is so bad at the moment, even including fedex charges.
All I have to do now is to figure out how to mount the bindings??? :-)

When in doubt?....Flat out.

Gareth Fair have you paid the costom charges yet? if not expect a nice letter asking you to pay around 40 pounds. I bought RX9 about a month ago from US which cost me $550 including delivery charges (invoce was for $400) and i paid around £50 to TNT for costom charges and some charge for delivery form TNT.Even with all that its still better dela and saves me about £50 form the english price. Cant wait fo try give them hard time. :)
