you have to keep moving the knee joint otherwise it will stiffen up, a physio will move it around for you and that will be painful.

I've got some exercises from physio to do for now until they decide if I need an op and I'm doing those religiously 3 times a day so that should keep me going until I see the surgeon. Thank you though, I will get my bike out eventually :)

Dids1 wrote:Hi,
My sister did a very similar injury at the end of January.
3 rd run, 1 st day, ski didn't release.

Has hospital appointment tomorrow, so will know a little more possibly.
Sounds like she is at about the same stage too.
Bad back from limping. Pain in injured knee still.
She was told in Morzine that she defintely wouldn't ski for a year.

She has my sympathy! It sucks.

Nelly, re the pain on movement, I presented myself at a hospital in Austria a few hours after twisting my left knee in December. The knee had come up like a balloon and I could hardly even get into my friend's car to get to the hospital as it was impossible to bend the knee. The doctor stuck a needle into the swollen knee and drew out about a wine-glass worth of blood, which eased the pain tremendously. Good luck, but I don't believe you should be doing any movements or exercise which cause severe pain. Obviously, you're getting guidance from medical professionals about what you should and shouldn't do.

Few exercises that are critical:
1 get leg straight, put something under heel and let gravity gently straighten for you.
2 if have access to bike use it. Initially you won't be able to do a full rotation but need to start working towards this.

Before operation I was squatting with weights and biking 40min. Speak with physio but will be long way back if let leg waste and or stiffen.

Ranchero_1979 wrote:Interestingly I have been advised against knee brace as affect proprioception.

The research evidence suggests that wearing a functional knee brace when skiing reduced the risk of repeat injury significantly.

Given that most of the rest of the time you won't be wearing a brace, even during rehab, there's no logic to the idea that wearing a brace will inhibit the recovery of proprioception. By the time you hit the slopes after a knee reconstruction proprioception should be fully recovered or recovered as much as it will.

Physio tomorrow, exactly 12 months to day after injury, 9 months on Friday since 2nd op. Fully expect to be given green light to ski again :-). Question is then if to do 1 1/2 days skiing or wait another month. Definitely a bit apprehensive about giving another go.

Summer skiing in Cervinia in July is booked.
