Hey all. Has anyone got any idea what sort of winter we are expecting in the Alps this year, and if there is likely to be more snow than last winter!?

Apparently, according to this thread here it has something to do with onion skin thickness.
Obviously local onions will be the most accurate so I urge everyone to head down to their nearest supermarket tomorrow and demand the entire stock of French, Austrian and Swiss onions!
We can then produce an entirely scientific and robust forecast for the entire season.
I think we will need to place our onions in a row for this - in date order of picking - to give us a snow profile for the winter.
But seriously... there was plenty of snow in many places, particularly toward the end of last season. We just need it to arrive earlier and hit harder (and lower) than it did last year!

From what i've heard, this winter is supposed to be a good one!! :D
Its a La Nina year, which means a cooler period than usual, and sometimes more precipitation. I have heard that the Alps and Pacific Northwest (Rocky Mountain resorts and Whistler etc) are all in for a cold snowy one!!! Fingers crossed!

Pretty much every mountainous region in Northern Hemisphere has had significant snow now. Austrian alps had a lot of snow, 1 foot plus in some areas!! Its the turn of the western Alps at the moment.
Its the time of the year it can be very snowy one day, and warm and sunny the next!!
