Hi,

I have only skied once and was thinking of going to an indoor snow slope to help me remember what I learned and get some improver lessons so I can ski more runs next time I go to the mountains.

Thing is - it seems really expensive - is it really worth making the drive and giving my money to xscape just for an hours worth of fake snow ?!

Does anyone go there and can recomend / not recomend ?!?

cheers
Jasmin

Might be worth it but I've found it's my fitness which deserts me over time, not techique. Last year I was in your position, having skiied many times but out of practice. I went to the gym to get my fitness up and found that one day on the lower slopes got me right back into the groove. Doing work on your legs might therefore be a more cost -effective way of preparing.

Jazzmaster..

its worth it for fun and to shake your brain into remebering how it feels though i agree its more about fitness.

I know they are pretty booked for recreational skiing now for a few weeks so call 1st if you need to go in the evenings / weekends

Hi

Learned to ski last Jan and have been away again this Jan. In between hubby and I went to Xscape in Glasgow 3 times and glad we did because a) we were able to try out our new boots before going on hols, b) helped us find our "ski legs" again (but a few bad habits probably did creep in). c) Reminded us the muscles we needed to work on. We also found it good for practising stopping or turning quickly as it's so much narrower than any proper ski slope so you have to avoid more people. I think the one in Glasgow is £31 for two hours but they do a special Mon - Fri which I think is about £25 for two hours - both include ski and boot hire. Make sure you take your ski gloves.

I have been going to Xscape in Milton Keynes to get into the swing of things. They do a Fresh Trax session every Monday, Wednesday & Friday morning. You either start at 9:30, 9:45 or 10:00 and its only £29.00 for 3 hours. That includes ski and boot hire as well. Its normally good quality snow (for an indoor slope) as its newly made the night before, hence the name, Fresh Trax.

I think all of the xscapes have the same sessions.

I hope this helps.

Thanks all,

I suppose the least I can do is try it once (Milton Keynes for me). I am buying new boots soon so it would be a good way to 'break them in'. I can only go in peak time though unfortunately...!!

Best to go early morning then. I went last saturday for an hour between 1 and 2 and it was ram packed. The slope had taken a bashing as well and large patches of ice were appearing after each ridge (top and halfway down). I dont know what the earliest session is during the weekend but if I was you I would be on it, especially if you want to have a hassle free time. Otherwise you queue for 5 minutes for a 10 second run........... It dint help that when I was there they had shut the bottom half of the left slope so people were cutting through and the middle slope lower section had to contend with loads of people. It may be worth a phone call to see if that will be the case when you intend to go. Saying that I still ad a great time.

Enjoy.........
