I LIKE

I don't know where they're getting that from but it's incorrect, they may have some automated systems that's not working properly. The Meteo France reports are where you need to look or the stations own snow report. Both of which are showing risk 3/5 and above on most slopes with a couple of sub-areas at 2/5, your link presumably is picking this lower risk erroneously. Given the continued cold weather, wind and fresh snow it would be odd if the risk were low.

You can read the correct reports here :

http://pistehors.com/backcountry/wiki/Avalanches/Avalanche-Bulletin
http://www.meteofrance.com/FR/montagne/bulNeige.jsp?LIEUID=DEPT38 (if meteo France defrost their server)

Ise, what makes you think the reports on the above websites are anymore correct than the one I have shown?

I only can go by what I read and if it is factually incorrect then it is not my concern.

You can see the website I got the information from as I included the link to it.

I assume by your comment about Meteo France that there site doesnt seem to be working so why bother putting it down.

I am just jotting information down as I am excited about going on holiday and could careless whose information is correct or not.

Next thing you know you will be trying to see who has the bigger .....

I think the automatic French translations are pretty amusing, e.g.

Quality of snow Friday: snow falling in windy cold wind, so cardboard in all exposed areas, but a dusty dream but watch.

I can see why they warn you to look at the original French as well

Stewart, I think Ise is just worried that someone might think the avalanche risk was only 2/5 instead of 3/5, which might cause them to take risks they wouldn't otherwise with possibly tragic consequences.

Anyway, I agree with you Stewart, there seems to be plenty of snow around for your holiday, which is looking good. Have fun :D :D

AllyG, I understand what you are staying I just dont like the fact that I am being told I am wrong when I have just stated what I read.
I am no expert and dont pretend to be unlike others.
If you actually look at the one of the ADH websites at the Avalanche Risk, yes it does state 3/5 rating.
At the same time however, many of the areas are lower than this and some are higher so I guess they are reporting averages for the area.
If someone was stupid enough to endanger themselves and others because "it was reported on J2ski that the risk was only 2/5" then they should be locked up and have the key thrown away as they would considered under English Law as an ongoing danger to society.

Anyway, rant over and it is not aimed at you Ally.

Onwards and upwards to the top of the mountain without a care in the world and let the skis glide me down to the bar for a beer!!!!

Does anyone know, did Snowbandit get her flight from Gatwick this morning?

Yes, she left Gatwick, but didnt end up in Grenoble as planned. A massive storm socked in, and they diverted to Lyon. She texted me to say the conditions are dreadful as they have got to Grenoble. Airport is closed for the time being, and they have been warned this may not change until 18th Jan.
Effing fantastic.

Thanks Tony,
Oh dear, poor Snowbandit

I wonder if she's been walking under a lot of ladders lately, or something
