HI,
Like you i was surprised at christmas wioth a ski trip to bulgaria. Though mine is to pamporovo not borovets. It may be worth a look at, the snow reports look good at the moment and there is plenty of snow around.
I have also heard, (and the internet backs this up) that pamporovo has one of the best ski schools in europe and is very good for beginners, but also has some intermediate and black runs for your girlfriend. Its definatly worth looking at, hope this helps

I'm going to Val Thorens with friends in 2 weeks, but wish we could have waited til now to book - there are lots of ski discounts right now. But instead of worrying about the holiday my best advice is to try ski-ing as soon as you can, there must be a dryski slope near you (and if you can manage that then snow will be much easier). You need to see what it's like with the skis (or snowboard - I tried ski-ing and hated it but love snowboarding) since a holiday with your girlfriend going off to enjoy the slopes while you're stuck falling over and listening to "ben-ze-knees" over and over again is going to leave you pretty unhappy. You should consider a one day course at one of the snow centres like Xscape, or dry ski slopes if you have to. Hope you have a great time wherever you go :)

Hi there
we are on our second ski trip in March and we just want a nice area we can cruise around that is good for beginners. we have chosen to go to Valmorel in France through crystalski. It is supposed to be fantastic for beginners and intermediates and is quite a large ski area. best of luck in your search, there are so many out there.

This season if you haven't booked, are a beginner and own a car, I'd take Scotland above Bulgaria/Romania. Seriously.

In brief:

If there is snow the lower resorts in Austria before March would be my first choice. The snow line starts lower and the tree line is higher which means you can ski in bad weather. Plus the villages are pretty and have more atmosphere. E.g Westendorf, Ellmau, Fieberbrunn, Muhlbach, Bad Kleinkircheim, Seefeld, Kirchberg, Gerlos(this is quite high but still has tree skiing).

Avoid the higher French resorts as they usually have no tree skiing, no atmosphere, poor facilities on the mountain (toilets and cafes) and high prices.
Best bet would be to go earlier in the season to Les Gets, Megeve or Les Contamines.

Good luck

Hi Dan,
I agree with AT00 Andorra is great for begininers and intermediates and its been snowing out there this week. I am heading out on March 14th for a week and can't wait! There are some good deals I got a great deal with The Big Snow festival...apparently a new music festival...main reason I booked it with them is it really cheap at £360ish for a week! Line up looks pretty good too!
