Hi,

Well done for choosing to ski, all the advice you will find from our fellow J2skiers on the site will stand you in good stead.

Just to add my two penneth, whenstrapped into your planks/board, stay calm ,relaxed and most of all have fun and enjoy the magical surroundings, you may well spend a good part of yor holiday on your bum,or take to it like a duck to water but I am certain you will have a blast......and find/use muscles you never even knew you had.

Enjoy and a safe trip to you all.

Fitness is definitely important, and not just fitness in the usual sense, but also flexibility etc.

I found that when I fell over on a blue slope I couldn't get back up - most embarassing . It is amazing how hard it is to stand up from a sitting position on a flat surface when wearing skis. My legs and arms were really sore from being over bent and the effort involved in trying to stand.

Now that I tend to fall over on steeper slopes it's not such a problem. In fact standing up on a black slope after a fall is a piece of cake, because of the angle of the slope

Over the years i have taken part in some great, extreme, sports and have over 100 Skydives under my belt (had to give up for various reasons, mainly female) but nothing has aroused me more than the thought of blasting down the mountains.

Thanks again

Jon. Welcome to the forum :D You will have a fantastic time. Ski holidays are just the best thing EVER.
I've not got anything booked yet, but my 20+ year old daughter is nipping my head asking when we will be going! So it's something you will be able to do with your family for many years to come.

Well, i am sure you more experienced guys may have a giggle as i couldn't push the finaces too far and stretch out to the 'north face'.

The Mrs and i took a trip to 'Mountain Warehouse' where they are doing a full set for £100. Thats Jacket, Trousers, Socks, Goggles and Gloves.
Even my limited knowlege tells me that the gloves, socks and goggles are not that great but the jacket and salopettes look good to me. Both are waterproof, fleece lined and have more pockets (iPod, phone, liftpass, goggles) than i have ever seen. Has vents under the arms too, snow skirt (not sure about that). The jacket has a small pocket on the inside right at the bottom that is see through? Is that for the lift pass? Do you just flick the bottom of the jacket up to show it or something?
Trousers are waterproof with the bib and braces, is that good?

As i said the goggles, gloves and socks look cheap and i intend to use them as emergency spares and buy some better quality ones.

I got my base layers from trespass last week. Two full sets for £25 which seem a good buy.

Best of all my jacket is orange! i love it.

Forgot to say, it is all branded 'Parallel' which i assume is Mountain Warehouse's own brand.
