I also flew to Grenoble and ,though short of legroom (6'3") it was only a short flight ...the food wasn't bad and neither was the service ,,,,,don't think I could have gone much further though

they also said it was the first year since the 1940's that air travel hadn't actually increased which seemed like good news for a change

I have flown with Thomas Cook twice. First time to Zante 4 years ago. 4 hours on a small Airbus with the least legroom I have ever found on a plane, much less than easyjet. T Cook are well known in the industry for taking out standard seating configs and ramming in as many as possible.
The on board service was no worse than anyone elses.
More recently I flew with them to Innsbruck. It was an old (and I mean old) Boeing 757. Nice planes with more legroom but this thing was about ready to fall apart. The flight into Innsbruck was the worst landing I ever had, thanks to some thick cloud down to about 500m above the airport and some strong winds, but thats not the airlines fault. In fact fair play to the pilot for getting us down safely!
Unfrotunately, the flight home was a disaster. Innsbruck airport was allegedy fog bound that morning according to the Nielson reps, so we were bussed to Munich. However, people were arriving into Innsbruck all day with no delays at all. 2 flights were supposedly diverted to Munich, but strangely enough no planes arrived. Why? Because they had got into Innsbruck no problem. Someone had taken the decision to send us to Munich without checking to see if the incoming flights were actually being diverted or not. Needless to say, 500 people were none to impressed. 1 of the planes at Innsbruck was sent on to Munich and took the Manchester flight home, but no plane arrived for us on the Gatwick flight, until 6 hours later when MyTravel sent an empty plane in to bring us home.
I wrote a letter of complaint but only got the standard "weather problems" answer back, and vowed never to fly with Thomas Cook again.
