I thought it was a balaclava before the holes were cut out.

I wore contacts last time I went skiing & had no problems at all with sun glasses (until I crashed badly & snapped them to bits :) )

Both goggles and sunglasses are fine.
I did wear the ski / cycling type sunglasses which have a bigger lens area that kind of wrap's around your head a bit & these were fine for keeping the wind out of your eyes

It probably keeps the wind out a bit but they wrap around to stop incident light hitting your eyes which can be extremely harmful.

Ahh ok, well I did have Panda-eyes after the holiday so they must have done a pretty good job of blocking the sun.

I'll answer the handwarmer question - S&R handwarmers last for upto 12 hours apparently - not that I've ever had any.
