its not because were scared of change, no not at all, for everyone its different, but for me its because that i find them more strenuous on the legs, as you have to exert more force as their is less surface area to stop on, as well as soon as you get out of them and back into regular skis you find it even more difficult to use them.
I dont know its just what i think
Snow blades??

Which is why skiboards are a better design than blades. Lots more surface area than blades but with the same or better tight turn radius.
Shudder....you are reminding me of my first ever black run, on borrowed GS style dead straight 195s - I'm 5'7"
It wasn't pretty!!
What's that, some kind of rite of passage. Has your dad been skiing recently ?

...about the same time as he was using a slide rule and log tables. You should also try using those sometime too )
Just joking

ski boards look a bit more like they would be fun as you could obtain higher speeds as they have legit ski bindings, but as for me, its shaped lengthy skis all the way, and if i really feel daring ill give monoskiing a try, that looks like fun, hard but fun.
by the way, my dad has been pushing for me to use his rossi's they are gS skis, straight shape, and at 206cm
i think ill step in em one day

lol funny you ask,
my dad has just turned 66, hes old as balls( and i'm only 20 as of this coming Monday, the 3rd
he hasnt been skiing for 11 years
i actually got him out about 1 month ago, taking into consideration he f***ed his back up and has problems with his knees, he got right back into it with his knees locked together, he has skied all across the country, and canada as well as germany (ZUGSPITZE), he raced a GS race in vail sponsored by SCHLITZ ill post a photo with this post, he did alright, he tried out for the US SKI TEAM, but he wasnt as insane as some of the guys that tried out, he has taught me a lot about skiing, and i take his advice over anyone else's as of right now. (note the patches are on my ski jacket right now and i love to get stopped and asked by people if their mine and if they could meet my father and chit chat with him
i do feel intimidated by using those size skis, but i might as well give it my all, since my dad could, then why not me
