Good afternoon friends.
I teach 11-18 year olds. Mostly nice kids.
I'm sure that having good motivation and well motivated parents will certainly reduce the effect of missing school.

There really is some cool stuff on this website.

Nice to meet you all by the way....sorry if I've been a bit stroppy

:D ...of which you're now a very welcome part!

I think that's the key. I definitely believe that parents should have the right to take their kids out of school for one week in a year.

Skiing is a great activity done together as a family - and that's all too rare nowadays. There are a whole range of educational and personal development positives for the younger ones - language, geography, weather, awareness of safety issues, taking responsibility for yourself and your kit, route finding as a team... quite apart from the fact that it's great fun too!

Sebby - You are right, we are ALL on the same side - SKIING :!: :!:

Still think it's ok to take your kids out of school though, but it's a free world and diverse opinions(even strange ones like yours) make it an interesting place
I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!

Absolutely, yes.
There is nothing wrong with a little bit of freedom of choice, and unfortunately going on holiday during school holiday periods is going to dramatically increase your costs, whether its skiing in February or at Christmas, or going to Greece/Egypt/Majorca etc in August.
Missing the odd week of school, provided its not in exam time or during a crucial year (ie GCSE year) causes no harm whatsoever to the childs education. With one daughter at uni, and a son in his last year of A levels, I speak from experience, and we have taken them out of school for at least one week often 2 every year, so that we can go where we want when we want, without being dictated to by the state.

Its up to the individual, but I see nothing wrong with cutting your holiday costs to suit yourself.

Unless of course money is no concern for you....

I'm actually a student at a Sixth form college and was looking to take a few of my mates skiing at half term as I can't take time off because we have A levels coming up.

I've found a holiday - EVERYTHING included ski pass, ski hire, flights, transfers, insurance, accommodation, B&B for £650 per person in Morganhof (spelling probs complete wrong), Austria. Pretty good isn't it??? :D

Even if money is no concern-no one wants to be spending more than they have to! Why spend £1000 on a week when you can go 14 days earlier for £500..

I think that expensive. Take out your lift pass, approx £110 usually, and its still nearly £500 and thats just B&B.

Look on bookableski, directski, skideals, Inghams and Crystal for the deals to be had.
