So.... Let me get this straight. You dont really have much money, but money isn't an issue. You are living totally free in Chamonix and have lived there for a while. The only thing you cant get free is ski instruction.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Yeesh, I only wanted some noob skier advice.
I live and work in Chamonix. My accommodation and food is included with my job.
I've been here about 12 weeks.

I can get limited free ski instruction, but I don't like to mooch too much.

But thank you for your keen interest in my life.

You will discover Sebmurphy that there is a lot of "tongue in cheek" comments on this site and much leg pulling along with some really good and valuable stuff.

The skill is sorting one from tother.

Have a great season, we are all jealous. :D
I can see my house from here...

Cheers guys. I'm not quite sure resident expert status is mine yet, maybe after a few more evenings drinking french beer.

And I'd noticed about the tongue in cheek advice. :D

There is loads of helpful stuff on here.

Well it is interesting!! More interesting than my dull existence. I never had the chance to live and work in Chamonix when I was young as I was too busy working and rubbish like that.

Enjoy the season, and I hope your skiing improves as much as you hope. I would advise,as have others, that you start off on the right foot, or feet, and get lessons. Its more difficult to iron out problems further down the line.

NellyPS wrote:Ooo lucky you! I spent two winters and a summer in Chamonix, it's where I learnt to ski, didn't have a single lesson but I do regret that, so perhaps a good starting point.

I was pretty competent by the end of the first season, and obviously improved even more by the end of the second (despite a knee injury which took a month or so out of my season).

And PLEASE make sure you do the Vallee Blanche once you're confident enough, I'm ashamed to say I didn't do it, in fact do it twice, once for me  -)

Don't believe the false modesty - Nelly is more than competent, whether on one plank or two.....

Some folks, especially the young, fit ones,(bah!) can pick up skiing really easily. If you are spamming tuition, try and get some lunchtime sessions, even a hour can be a great help. Then be disciplined with yourself, you have to practice what you have been shown. If you are hanging out with a bunch of really good skiers, beware of getting into survival mode, if they take you somewheere steep before you are skilled enough. This is where the bad habits can get set into your skiing.

Have a wonderful winter 8)
