Hi all,
Arriving in Zell around Christmas (24th Dec), for my honeymoon...

Havent been to this resort before, so any guidance or thoughts on things to do (apres ski wise) would be much appreciated.

Also, very relieved the snow seems to have properly arrived - I didnt fancy skiing on a packed glacier all week...

Cheers,
Jonny

Can't help with your questions about Zell, but welcome to the forum and many congratulations on the event which has caused your honeymoon

I hope you have a wonderful time, in a fairytale environment.

Thats the post I've been looking for!!! Glad to hear Schmittenhöhe lifts are opening!! I'm off to Zell am See on the 17th of December and have been a bit nervous! Have been glued to the webcams for the last few days and it is looking rather busy!

Never skied outside of Scandanavia before so am really looking forward to going! Can you let me know what the resort is like? Are the lower runs opening too?

Cheers

Dan

Great skiing, lots of variation but watch out for the schools, very commercial area but you'll have fun

Hi Dan 55

Daxer Hotel is in a fantastic position for access to the Schmittenhohe but is a little bit out of the town. The chalet I stayed in last year is right behind the Daxer. We always walked into town at night - took about 20 minutes all downhill. Coming back there are plenty of taxis and we could never face the walk back up the hill. Ria x

Hi. No I don't think you can ski back to the Hotel Daxer but hope you have a great holiday. A couple of webcams for you to check out

Live view of the slopes

Live camera in the Crazy Daisy bar (where most of my apres ski nights end)

the resort is great for all abilities BUT it has been accused in the past of being a little limited. Yes if you are a really looking for a challenge and a good skier can soon complete all of the runs. HOWEVER, (I am biased as I live here) the skiing, the people and the Apres Ski in town take some beating. We also have the Kiztsteinhorn Glacier when the snow doesn't get down to the valley and Saalbach/Hinterglem is 25 mins in the car. If you really want to have a LONG Days Skiing and have bought the Salzburg Super ski Pass 20 mins drive has you in Hollersbach and you can ski over to Kitzbuhel and back(Not a lot of time for Gluhwein). If we get a little snow(as forecast) this weekend it will be good. Viel Spaß! Tim

You don't need the Salzburg Card for that, the Kitzbuheler Alpen Allstar pass covers ALL of the areas you have mentioned (and of course includes Zell am Zee/Kaprun).
