The U shot pole arrived today. Seems to be a good piece of kit. The end section will swivel up/down and side to side. It also has a small mirror so you can check if you are in the frame.
It has a tripod mount so should be no worries about the camera falling off.
Looking forward to using it.

When you have a go pro on your head, how do you know that the angle is right and it is not simply recording blue sky??!

Ha ha !!!
But if you point it forward and a bit down you will get just your feet or the opposite too much sky? Does the bracket thingy it sits on rotate up.down/left/right?

It has a very wide field of view Icy, so even if you don't quite have it right, you should still get some good footage.
If you are really concerned, there is supposed to be a wifi backpack coming out for the gopro HD2 which will allow you to watch what you are filming from your iphone / android phone while it is recording. Probably not a good idea to be looking at your phone while you are actually skiing though.
Another option is to mount it to your helmet, put your helmet on and start it recording, then take it off and check your footage. Once you are happy with the angle, simply remember about where it should be. This method works for me.

The field of view is very wide, especially with the 170 degree setting.
It's a fantastic piece of kit.
