We are planning our first skiing trip in February, me, husband and 10 year old daughter. So complete ski virgins, can anyone recommend any locations or hotels. I have looked at St Wolfgang in Austria but not sure how the snow will be there.

i would recommend checking out Flaine in france, read up about it on the internet and form your own opinion but i went there about 5 years ago and i really enjoyed it. the resort itslef is quite small but there are a few nice bars with a relaxed atmosphere.
i went there with some skiiers who you could class as beginners and they had a wail of a time!
i would also recommend cervinia in italy

Hedges59, if we can tempt you to France you'll find that La Rosiere is great for beginners, it's high, it's very snow-sure, holds the record for snowfall in France and the majority od slopes are south facing so it's usually sunny.
It gets good reviews for thr quality of the ski schools and the friendliness of the village. we are a little biased we have a chalet there and we've had lots of guests learn to ski, you can check out our website www.tracksvacations.com for full details or contact us on info@tracksvacations.com and we'll be happy to answer any questions you have. We still have some availability for w/c 11th Feb.

Hi - I would recommend Kirchdorf In Tirol, Austria, if only for the ski school which is excellent! The Village is very typically Austrian and although quite low the ski pass gets you to St Johann/Kitzbuhel/Waidring plus many more. All the instructors at Kirchdorf speak excellent English, we went in January with some friends who had never skiied before and they loved it! So much so that we all booked up again for next January!! Wherever you decide to go, it has to have a decent ski school or you won't enjoy it as much. Have fun!!
I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!

Hi
If the snow is good I would recommend Niederau in Austria. Very easy lower slopes make it great for beginners to gain confidence. The slight downside is that it is low altitude. I had 2 holidays there, the first with excellent snow, the second not. February should be OK though.

There is only one place in Europe thats affordable and perfect for first time skiing, and guaranteed snow: VAL THORENS
I learned to ski there 6 years ago, it was perfect, but bloody cold too! Minus 25 at midday no less.....
I havent done canada or US yet, but I understand its best to take your kids there to learn so there is no language barriers.
I still always say to myself "bend zee neez" thanks to my French instructor when I am bombing down a red!
