Due to weather conditions (heavy snow and wind) announced in the next 72 hours, thank you kindly read the following important information:

1 - Traffic in the Valley of Belleville will be severely degraded during this period, with peaks expected between Friday afternoon and Saturday night

2 - under these conditions, it is likely that plans for triggering avalanches are implemented on the road in the night from Friday to Saturday, causing the temporary closure of access station

3 - you should avoid unnecessary travel during this period, and encourage your staff to do the same and use the parking available. Also, we strongly recommend you to encourage carpooling to get to our stations

- Do not forget your lines, be sure to let them accessible and, before leaving, try mounting your vehicle.

- Equip your warm clothes, a flashlight and water.

- If the cap does not leave your car without being asked by the police.

Information will be relayed on local radio ALTITUDE 3000 (101.0 MHz) and France Bleu Pays de Savoie (103.9 Mhz).

There will be a fair few of these warnings going around over the next few days.
The snow plough drivers will have their work cut out to keep access open to many of the higher level resorts.
But, it's a pretty well rehersed routine and the police will be out in force "policing" the roads.

Have just read it and lines = Snow Chains so we are told to put them on before going up the mountain - Police usually are around to stop those that don't have them. However it does look like the road up to St Martin, Les Menuires & Val Thorens may need to be closed if the snow that is forecast does appear to prevent possible avalanches. They are asking Tour Ops and Letting Agencies to send a list of all the mobile numbers of their clients - in resort and travelling to on Saturday so that they can text them updates on travel. Have just requested this service as travelling independently and as a precaution booked a cheap Hotel in Albertville on Saturday night! Don't fancy a night in the car even if I am wearing warm clothes, have water and food! The good news is that Sunday is forecasted to be sunny!

At a guess, they're telling you not to abandon your car unless told to do so.

I see the VT site is now explicitly stating "special equipments (snow chains, snow tyres) are mandatory"

Almost certainly there will be checkpoints in the valley before it gets too snowy - anyone without both winter tyres AND chains is likely to get turned around (I've seen this in the past).

Anyone driving out this weekend, to or through the Northern French and Swiss Alps at least, should seriously consider changing their plans to avoid travelling in the mountains late Friday and all day Saturday - this is going to be a major snowfall.

I'm just about to email that out with our weekly snow mail!
