quite, I saw a headline in a UK newspaper recently screaming "14 people die each year from errors in medication", I fancy those odd's ,14 out of some 70 odd million sounds ok to me )

I would say the figures are higher than that. If you included medicines dispensed in Pharmacy, medicines dispensed in hospital, also medicines administered in hospitals, clinics and the worst in nursing homes by unqualified staff.
Here's to hoping I hav'nt or never contribute to those statistics

For me it was an easy choice, i ride mountainbikes alot...fast! I would never ever ride without my helmet but at the same time i don't feel like superman because i have one on, it just feels normal!
I use one for skiing and always will. My mates try and take P**s but are slowly coming around to the idea. I just ignore them. They think they look silly but one of them has just bought a d3-0 beanie and to be honest it doesnt look any better as it's so thick, he actually looks kinda like the mushroom on super mario!
I have a new poc receptor bug helmet which is super comfy, keeps my ears warm and has adjustable venting by removing a liner etc. I don't even think about it when skiing and deffinately don't think it makes me invincible, it just feels normal to wear it!

Obdviously this is all persoanl preference and some people will never wear one. I would reccomend them if some one was to ask however!

i have to say that it makes perfect sense to wear a helmet, and although i took a while to come round to the idea, I usually do now wear it. It does take a bit of getting used to but would you go downhill mountain biking at the same speed without wearing a helmet?!

Hi all, got a few days off work.

Just had a fatal accident at my place. A ski racer took an exposed uncovered snow gun to the head and passed pretty immediately. Also had a kid wreck and knock out most of his teeth.

It's a 50/50 chance or risk. When I'm out at my resort, I don't when I'm at another place I do...

here's to all of us, never finding out if we need one.
Uh oh, I think I broke'd the lift

Hi Iceghost,
Aren't all the snow guns supposed to be surrounded in protective foam and coloured orange? That sounds really horrible. How awful for him and his friends and family.

For years the missus has been on at me to get a lid, and I kept putting it off, because I never really want to wear one...
So she bought me one for Xmas, which I was obliged to wear of course.

Warm and unobtrusive, it felt hardly any different to a beanie....

And if I were to cross swords with some ice/snow-cannon or club-wielding ogre, I might come out better off....

I have finally done it. I have bought a helmet!

I took my daughter to Pembrey today (the dry ski slope where I broke my shoulder) because they have a good ski shop with lots of helmets for sale, and I am very keen for her to start wearing one, especially as this coming holiday she will be having off piste lessons.

Anyway, we were ages trying on helmets, and I remembered whoever's tip it was to try them on with goggles. She has a large head and she picked an adult Scott helmet shadow white, for £74-95 with matching Scott Witness Oxford Silver goggles for £85 (she has very expensive tastes but I agreed because I do want her wearing a helmet).

And I got my helmet for a real bargain price, because I have a very small head and I got a children's one (no VAT) Salomon helmet Kiana white for £39-95 and I am keeping my non matching goggles (someone had to economize!).

I will let you know how I get on ski-ing with my new helmet in a couple of weeks. It does have some very nice ear muffs so it should at least keep my ears warm :D
