same as every1 else ally, well done, superb ! i got back from 3 valleys on 31st march and had a great time, bit slushy at end of day though. i was thinking of les arcs next year but if you can change my mind and tell me why tignes would be better for me and my kids i could be persuaded. we are intermediate boarders and kids are 13 and 17.

Hi Oldboarder,
That would be great if you and your family would like to come on holiday with us :D

Tignes will definitely be the better place because we will be there

Hello peeps.

Just checking in after stuffing my face with choccie eggs to see what is happening on the hol front.

Mr F is interested in the ice driving (I am bad enough in the dry - so maybe not).

Come with us Oldboarder, we are determined to have a good holiday, making new friends and finding the best ski runs in Tignes.

It's a great area to ski with something for everyone and we are all intermediates of varying levels (hope I haven't insulted anyone here). So hopefully we should be able to encourage each other (especially when it comes to La Sache!!!)

It's also a very good price considering where we are going and the level of accommodation.

And.... we get Ally to organise us, she is just so good at it.

Happy Bank Holiday..... :D
I can see my house from here...

Felthorpe - thanks for the vote of confidence in my organisational abilities

And I'm glad you had a lovely time eating chocolate Easter eggs - I haven't eaten ONE yet because I'm still waiting for the price to go down

We may have some beginners with us as well, which would be good because, as I said before, they could take advantage of the free drag lift and nursery slope and the free chairlift up to Les Boisses so they can can ski/board all the way down the long blue into Les Brevieres (and save a fortune on lift passes).

Icy, I haven't asked our new member yet if they want their name released on the forum. I will post a message in our private Facebook group and ask.

And, if you're a newcomer to this thread, I'm sure you will be delighted to know that we still have places available for this holiday (details on the first page). If you're interested in coming with us please either post here or send me a pm.

I will be contacting the Bonjour company tomorrow to let them know how we are getting on with the bookings, and for answers to some of the questions the group has raised.

Holiday costings

As a group we have been working out some costings for this holiday.

There are still some uncertainties - such as we don't know yet what size of discount we will obtain from Bonjour because we don't know how large our group will eventually be. So I am using the basic shared room price of £399 for the catered chalet Bonjour-Bonjour.

And we are all selecting the most suitable way for each of us to get to the chalet. Between us we are either flying, going by train, or driving ourselves there.

Self-drive costs depend on whether you take the longer, cheaper route (by ferry and avoiding the French road tolls) or the faster, more expensive one, how far you live from Dover, and how much fuel your car uses etc...

We have prices for self-drive varying between £200 and £400 per car.

We can't obtain a price for the train yet because the tickets won't be available for several months, but I should think it will probably be around £250 return from London.

Flights from the U.K. are around £100 return.

I am going to go out by train on Saturday and stay in a hotel overnight, and fly back late evening from Geneva with EasyJet the following Sunday. This way I will be able to ski for 8 days.

My costings will look something like this:

Direct Eurostar to Bourg = £125
Hotel for one night = £50
Bus to Les Brevieres = £10
Shared room in chalet = £399
Area Lift pass for 8 days = £230
Ski hire (I have boots) = £90
Transfer to Geneva = £40
EasyJet to Gatwick = £40

Total = £984

However, for someone wishing to fly who could use the chalet's transfers at £30 each way from Geneva and only wanting to ski for 6 days, the costs would be more like this:

Return Flight = £100
Return transfers = £60
Shared chalet = £399
Area lift pass = £200
Ski hire = £80

Total = £839

We will also obviously need spending money for lunch - I have found that I spend at least 10 euros on lunch each day on the mountain.

And we will all need to buy snowsports insurance - last year I paid around £40 for single trip insurance.

These are only preliminary costings which will have to be adjusted as we each progress with booking up the various elements of the holiday.
