Hi

I am looking to buy my first pair of ski boots. I have flat feet and wear moulded insoles (from the podiatrist) in my shoes all of the time to correct this. I have been on a one week ski holiday and I changed by boots a couple of times but they were still uncomfortable . I have been to the local snow dome and suffered terrible blisters and pain in my feet . I would welcome any advice on buying ski boots and any shops which would be recommended in the north or north east of England.
Thank you in advance :P

I'm flat footed also but maybe not as severe as you as don't need special insoles. Brand new boots should mould to the shape of your feet. Snow and rock do a good ski fit service. I would suggest wearing your new boots around the house and while watching tv for an hour of so each night. Then try them in your indoor slope. Only then get fitted for custom footbeds if you feel you need them.

Here is a link to a list of trained ski boot fitters. I'm not connected to the organisation. My boot fitter is on this list:

I've had experience of both Ellis Brigham and Snow & Rock over the years. Buying boots is expensive, get it right 1st time.

Thanks for this list it is really useful and good to know that there are people who know what they are doing and are certified.

We had looked in Ellis Brigham and they have a good selection but I was not sure as I had read some mixed reviews on this site and know success is down to the fitter. I wanted to make sure we got it right first time :D

My advice would be to either book a session with a fitter or make sure you go to the shop when it is quiet.

Worst thing you can do is turn up at a busy time and have the fitter running round several people at the same time.

Go soon, most places will have their stock by now, and many popular sizes will run out by mid winter. Try and have no particular boot in mind, the fitter will suggest a couple for comparison.

I am now a proud owner of my own ski boots, thanks for all the help and advice. Now I just need to test them out next weekend :)
