where might we find snow late season

Hang on - after Easter this year?
Easter w/end is April 23rd/24th and so very late.
Many resorts will try to keep some skiing for this w/end but will then close after Easter Monday.
16th April to 23rd April will see considerably more availability than the following week.
Skiing after Easter this year will be very limited.

Can you wait and see?
See where is the best snow and then book the holiday?
So much can change in the next six weeks - Austria is doing well at the moment and, as you say, France is very poor, but all this can change.

To reinforce what YoungAndy said, in general, there are usually heaps of offers, some last minute, some 2/3 weeks earlier.
That allows you to consider the snow conditions. What to look for ~ is the base still good, they have a dump of snow, what are the night time temperatures (look for sub-zero forecast). Generally, that allows you to confidently book a couple of weeks ahead.
Costwise, Austria will jump very high on the 5th March week, that is Fasching. I don't know about other countries.
I have never accepted the premise that in March "you have to go high". Resorts with north facing slopes, operating good piste management, and with a good snow history. For most of the last 40 odd years, I have skied in March, in lowish resorts. I prefer to ski at tree level.
On the other hand, if the conditions do not feel right, then you can go to a glacier area, or at least a higher resort. Zermatt may be a good call.

Austia apparently got lot of snow and it should last till March even without any new snow. France hasn't seen any snow for a while now and none is expected soon. the same goes for West of Switzerland. On the other hand if it dumps there, it will also last well into April - as it usually does. But so far Austia looks like a much safer bet.

I wouldn't fret about March per se - lack of snow is a problem at any time of the season & many wouldn't consider it the end of the season until you get into April.
Certainly there may well be spring conditions low down, however many times March benefits from good dumps although it melts a little faster because the sun is stronger.

Hi,
I wouldn't be too worried about the snow conditions ( although this is the main fretting, nail biting, heart thumping worry we all have :D ).
What a difference a few weeks makes ...here is a webcam shot of Les Arcs http://www.webcam-ski.com/interfaces/les-arcs-peisey/interface.php?pk_interface=259&m=images&r=panoramique#depart
If you haven't booked anything yet just keep an eye on the conditions while you choose where to go, along with some of the others booking toward the end of March and nearing Easter can put prices up, but if you can choose to go after Easter you may find some great deals, also going mid week to mid week self catering can help cut costs sometimes.
Hope you have an enjoyable ,safe trip wherever you decide.
Jon.
