Evening all.
I wonder if anyone can point me towards a good ski shop in or near(ish) to South Wales?
A change in life has led me to believe that skiing is what I want to do to have fun. Having not skied for 15 years the return was hard to describe. Somehow I just felt like me again. Does that make sense? Suffice to say the bug has bitten and I can't see it letting go!
With this in mind I've taken the hopefully sensible decision to hire skis for the foreseeable future but to buy some boots.
(Thanks to AllyG and others who have posted about their experiences, tis invaluable to a boot virgin such as myself.)
A plod round the interweb has yielded "Coyoti". Nice site and a very good fitting guide seemed promising. I was ready to go and have a look when I saw that they seem to only stock Head and Atomic boots. Now this will be my first pair so I really want to get it right.
So should I go and see if they happen to fit my feet or find somewhere else with a larger range? I'm happy to travel to somewhere else but to do so will cut into the budget…
Any and all advice appreciated.
Cheers folks,
Owen.

Hi Owen - sorry I can't help about the ski boots as I live in Scotland but I know what you mean about coming back to skiing. I was quite a keen skier in my 20s but my husband hates cold and snow so just had beach holidays while the kids were young. Long story but managed to get him to go skiing two years ago (although he says never again.) Felt so happy inside to be back on snow and could not stop smiling. Managed to get a ski holiday again this year so looking forward to that. Sorry rambled on a bit there, hope you get your boots sorted. Ria x

Hi Ria. Thanks for the reply. Glad I'm not alone and glad you've managed to reawaken your skiing passion! Hopefully you'll be able to tempt him back, or he'll find something that he can do for a week whilst you hit the slopes...
I never had much time for the Harry Potter craze but I think referring to non skiing partners as muggles may work!
Have fun,
Owen.

Ha ha my husband will be known from here on in as Mr Muggles. No he won't be tempted back he really hates the cold and he is an addicted golfer (handicap of 7 so he plays a lot). I was trying to pluck up the courage to go on an organised group week in Morzine last year which included lessons but chickened out. Got something sorted this year though and off to Zell am See next Saturday with a non skiing friend so am really looking forward to it. Hope you get your boots sorted as I am sure there are some Welsh J2skiers who will help you out.

Owen,
I'm sorry but I don't know any good boot fitters in Wales, although I expect there are some, somewhere.
I live in West Wales, but I went all the way to London to buy my boots because someone on here recommended Profeet and a friend of mine had a bad experience buying boots from our nearest ski shop. I combined the trip with seeing friends and family and trying the boots out at Milton Keynes. Even with the fares increase advance train tickets from here to London and back are only £48, or even less if you get them super early. And if you're in South Wales it should be a lot less for you.
Ria,
My husband doesn't ski either, but I go with either one or both of my nearly grown up daughters. I started ski-ing again after a gap of about 30 years - and I agree, it's totally addictive :D

Barry ski lodge has moved to a nice new shop in the cardiff bay area.
They have a larger choice than coyote ski.
Further west you could try pembry ski, in the country park, they have decent selection, plus knowledgeable staff.
In swansea you could try mike davies leisure in the killay area.
My choice would be either pembrey or barry ski lodge.

hi marksman,
i was at COYOTI this afernoon, it's in cowbridge, between bridgend and cardiff. had a v v intelligent young man talking about boots, asking all the right questions about ability, confidence etc, and he quite inspired me. i'm a ski instructor and so i was impressed. the prices of the boots for skiers in my category were reasonable, altho' the clothing is top of the range: v v expensive ANIMAL gear.
i might go back there in a few weeks. they give a guarantee on the boots, that they will fit you and be comfy, but for this, you shd be buying them and walkng around in them for a day or two to bed them in before your holiday. this might limit you if you don't live close to the shop.
it's tucked away behind the main street, and is open 7 days a week. L.
