HI guys

just got back this morning from Morillon 1100 - Les Esserts

all I can say is that it was a fantastic week :D

Chalet Morillon was a gem of a find and I will not go on about how great it was in case it fills up before I can get there next year  I now know why Ian Wickham does not go on about it - he wants to keep it to himslef too

Plenty of snow when we arrived and some excellent family skiing. Chalet Morillon is right on the beginners slope with fantastic views down the valley. We came out of the boot room, clipped on our skiis and skiied to the bottom of the beginners run to catch the poma up and a very quick walk across the road to the main Sairon chair up the mountain. The runs from the top of the Sairon chair down into Les carroz were my favorites, in particular Timales and Morriollets (sp??) We ventured across to Flaine a couple of days but I definately prefer the Morillon, Samoens side of the mountain. Very cute typical Savoyuard treelined slopes and wide open runs. Some excellent huts to grab lunch, there was not much else we could ask for.

Daughter no 2 now snowboards and she was zooming down the runs with dad and daughter no 1 in front of the rest of us!

On the fourth day (of our 8 day stay) the runs near the bottom were in a bit of need of snow and voila! two full days of snow arrived. Even with the snow there was very clear visibility and for those of you that are going for the New Year week, there is so much snow and it was bright blue skies when I left yesterday. You guys are in for a great week :D

We will definately return to Morillon as there is a distinct lack of hooligans careening down the slopes and a fantastic family atmosphere. The home runs at the end of the day are brillliant - even with sore and tired legs it is an easy cruise down a nice red or the green Marvel run.

I cannot recommend it more highly.

When I figure out how to do it I will upload a few photos.

We are now looking forward to our Oberlech/kitzbuhel trip in January and February

I knew I had seen it somewhere on the site

Ian, as far as the chalet goes it is owned and run by a lovely brit from Yorkshire called Andrew, and his wife pauline. The chalet staff are also great - say hi to Mike, Sara and Becky for us when you are there. Good food, free flowing wine etc. Xmas dinner was excellent and for xmas morning we had champagne while the kids did their presents from under the tree. There was also a present on the dinner table for all of us that night when we all sat down to xmas dinner together.

What specifically did you want to know and I will be a bit more detailed if I can.

The chalet has 7 bedrooms spread over 3 floors.Stairs are a bit steep though so I would worry if I had really little ones. The place was completely renovated when Andrew bought it 6 years ago. A middle level mezzanine floor is where the kids spent most of their time on the playstation, Tv etc. There were five other kids all the same age as ours while we were there so they had a great time too.

Bathrooms all very modern and clean and plenty of heating.

Position in Morillon is fantastic. Every afternoon we sat on the balcony and watched the kids play with the toboggans and mess around in the snow. The big boys also played around in the snow too doing the toboggans on their stomachs 8)

We really id have a good time

Carol
