Hi all, 57 sleeps to go and yet I'm still sooooooo excited! Now I'm all booked up my thoughts are turning to running through my gear and seeing if I need anything new this year.

I'm a once a year skier and to date most of my skiing has been end Feb/beginning March which means I have only ever needed sunglasses. However I am skiing the end Jan/1st week of Feb this year and I want to get some goggles so I'm prepared for any flat light/snow conditions.

I really don't want to spend more than say £30 as I'm only on the slopes for a week a year (sadly) and I'm very much an on piste nothing adventurous skier. I would therefore be grateful for any views as to brands/colour of lense tint to go for? I was wondering about Bolle (I like their sunglasses) for example.

Thanks

Mel

Mel C, Bolle are a well respected brand and you won't go far wrong with a pair from them. Choose a lens colour to suit most light conditions. It's quite useful to be able to see what effect the different tints have on the view through the lens. Some folks like a Rose tint, others go for Yellow or Persimmon.

Here's a link to Oakley who have an interactive simulation of the different lens effects.

I have a £50 pair of Bolle goggles the wife brought a couple of years ago, never really been happy with them and not very good in low light

Are lenses suitable for low light use?

I'll add my support to the Bolle brand. The ones I bought for my first hol a couple of years ago are brill (Cost under £25, I think they were a discontinued model). They never steam up, unlike another pair my OH bought me for the same price, and it's amazing the difference they make in flat light. The lense is the Vermillion colour which I think is a bit of an all rounder in terms of light conditions.
I wish I could meet the person who first decided to strap 2 planks to their feet and throw themselves down a mountain
