Rauris.

Anyone been to Rauris lately.Any info on hotels, slopes, pubs would help. Thanks.

Not for 4 years but it was a lovely little place ..a bit limited though

Went a few years ago. It was our first ever ski trip. As I remember it, a very small village, but very pretty. Not much nightlife if you like rowdy stuff. A couple of pubs - I think the Shakesbeer was the liveliest. Hotels - we stayed in the St Hubertus. It's a three-star, rooms clean and tidy, staff polite but not over-friendly (many spoke limited English). Evening meal was pretty standard, the usual salad bar, plus main course and wide choice of desserts. My husband doesn't eat meat, and they had trouble producing an acceptable alternative (even though there was a choice of 2 main courses each night). The best thing about the Hubertus is its location. It's the closest hotel to the gondola - right beside it in fact, and beside the nursery slope. It has a ski hire shop in the basement. The other hotels are in the village and beyond, so a five minute walk or ski bus ride from the gondola (the ski bus always looked packed). From our point of view, this made the hotel ideal. I remember there was another hotel that Crystal used at the far end of the village - it was really nice, very upmarket. Can't remember what it was called. I'm not sure they're using it any more. There's one nursery slope, served by a rope drag - not a proper t bar or button lift. Most people seem to progress quite quickly to the slope served by the gondola. Not sure what grade as we weren't good enough to leave the nursery area! There's two ski schools. My one gripe with the place is the lack of places to eat at lunchtime near the slope. There's a hut beside the nursery slope, or you have to walk to the village. So when all the ski schools break for lunch, there's hordes of people trying to eat at the same time. There's a couple of nice restaurants up the mountain which you can reach by gondola.
I believe there's a further slope reached by a chair lift from the village somewhere, but we never saw that one.
I agree with daved - it's quite a limited little place, but depends what you want. For our first trip it was perfectly ok. I would go back when we are good enough to ski on the proper pistes, not just the nursery slope!
