Can get my skis serviced & tuned locally in the UK at a cost of £30 is this good value or would it be cheaper to wait & get them serviced in resort :?:.

It used to be cheaper abroad when the euro was 1.4 to the but 25 euros is now nearly 25 quid so little difference these days. The only thing I'd say is if you find a little place abroad you might get better standards as most UK shops will throw your skis through the belt and reduce the life of them considerably.

If you live near Nottingham, I can recommend someone very good.

Look at your local dry slope you can normally pick up people advertising ski service, TBO 25€ in France normally covers a full service .

I live in the back of beyond in rainy old Cumbria. :XD:

Doesn't seem to be too much difference in the price between uk & resort then, just the question over the ski service standard to ponder over. I should have probably got them serviced at the end of last season in resort really.

This really depends on what you mean by serviced. How much wear and tear do have on the skis ?

Serviced could mean

sharpen edges, and wax (which is probably all you need)

Belt grind (cheap with low tech structure), edges, and wax

Stone grind (better quality base finish with good general purpose structure)

Race tune (special structure for conditions, radial base bevel, and polished edges)

The waxing process varies for these options too.

So it's important to know what you are getting for your money. Unless your skis bases are worn and have lost the structure, you may only need wax and edge tune. That should be reasonably cheap. Ask questions about the edge bevel angles, and the waxes used, to make sure you are getting value for money.

You could try The Ski & Outdoor Warehouse - www.skiwear4less.com. They have a store in Carlisle and they charge £9.50 for edge/hot wax or £19.50 for full service. We took ours to the Castleford store recently and had the edge/wax they look fine.

FatKatSki seems to offer a good suggestion.

If I recall correctly, N. is your first trip this winter. Margreiters wil be 10/15 Eu for an edge and wax, and 25 for a full service.
Blachfelders may charge up to 5 Eu extra.

I normally use Blachfelder, but then, I don't pay the full price.

I always go into the back room and chat to the technician, if you dvelop a good relationship, you tend to get a good job done.
