Went to Fernie in March for a couple of weeks and would say that there is plenty of skiing. The reort is based aroud about 4 bowls which all offer a mixture of good powder and groomed runs. I don't think that we never had to wait for more than a minute to get on a lift and if someone else was on it you felt a bit aggrieved that someone else was on "Your lift".
The resort has ski guides which are locals that do free guiding which meet in the morning and afternoon. They are well worthwhile and let you get a feel for the mountain and they will do whatever type of run you fancy. They are also free and don't expect tips.
we stayed at the griz which is right on the mountain.if you are into the apres ski then this ins the only thing that you will be disappointed about. I don't know if it was due to us being there at the end of the season but as soon as the skiing finishes the place just empties and everyone disappears.
You must have Chilli at the Griz which is probably the best i have ever had and warms you up ready for the afternoon..

Thanks Smudger, thats the kind of info I was after. I think the apres ski thing is pretty general in North American resorts. They seem to organise their entertainment for the seasonal workers rather than the tourists. I mean starting at 11pm when every self respecting skier should be pushing out zzzzzz's in anticipation of making first tracks(I must be getting old!!)

I've booked now anyway so looking forward to those bowls. I was in Panorama last year and they did the mountain friend thing. Its a great service and not only shows you the mountain, but is a good way of meeting people.

Oh, and on the Scotland/Canada question - You are right, how unpatriotic of me to forego 10 days of wind, rain, sleet, ice, rocks, heather, breaking down tows, misleading snow reports, for 10 days in a place like Fernie!!!

Oh, and Fernie is probably cheaper!!!

I may be Scottish, but you will never hear me championing Scottish resorts, or the Scottish Parliament, or the SNP, or the Brown/Darling dictatorship...........

Rant over for now :D
