Heading off to Chamonix on 9th Jan 2010, and was wondering if people have any knowledge of the general snow conditions this time of year?
I understand that its early season and would prefer to be going a bit later, but you know how it is!
Cheers

If you want to ski around, buy the Mont Blanc Unlimited area ticket. If you want to stay in the valley the Le Pass should be fine.
Er.... Small point. Last time we checked we were not fellas at all, in any way

Welcome to J2ski :D Early Jan will be low season, so there will be few queues. There will be skiing, Grand Montets will be open for sure. The Chamonix town slopes might be closed if the big snowfalls are late, but almost all the local skiing is up high. Who knows, you might get mega snow falls and powder, though if that happens, every barman and ski bum from town will be in front of you in the c/car queue )
I skied Chamonix several (early) January's and had a good time with plentiful snow. The Vallee Blanche may not be open, usually opens the end of Jan, due to getting the crevasses sufficiently covered.

Hiya, welcome to J2ski, here's the snow history from last season, I'm sure I've seen history going back longer but can't remember where I saw it!
Hope this helps anyway :D

Thanks fellas, much appreciated.
So based on the likelyhood of certain areas being closed what ski pass would you advise? The last two years I have been to Tignes which is always pretty good in Jan due to the galcier and altitudes, so was a bit weary of Cham so early. But sounds ok to me.
I got a friend working out there so im sure ill see him up in front of me hanging with the ski bums haha!!

We're away to Les Houches on 2nd January, and we've skiied there in january before with plenty of snow - they have cannons too for worst case scenario purposes.
The snow is coming this weekend - we'll all be fine. That's what I keep telling myself anyway....
