Hi there,

I am sure it is fine to wear contacts skiing (obviously using goggles too), but I thought I might check with you guys before taking to the slopes unexpectedly finding that my eyelids freeze together or something horrible like that! Has anyone had any issue with contacts at all?

Much appreciated,

Fergus

I wear contact lenses when skiing so don't worry, there's nothing fatal or eye-freezing about them :P.

Only real difference is on a particularly windy day or when skiing fast, your contacts will dry out a bit quicker than normal (as contacts are prone to do).

Truth be told I pretty much wear sunglasses or goggles all the time anyway so even that small problem is eliminated.

Not had a problem using contact lenses even at very low temperatures. I always carry a bottle of comfort drops to ease the drying effect of the wind. I think that so long as you wear sunglasses or goggles you'll be fine.

My husband works as an optometrist and I am a dispensing optician so do know something about wearing contact lenses. Personally never had problems. Except getting sunblock in my eyes and crying a lot! I do suggest taking a spare pair of lenses with you- much easier if you wear dailies. But no worries as skiied wearing contact lenses both in sunglasses and in very bad blizzards wearing goggles. Does help the skiing mind you when you can't see just how steep the slopes are!

Thanks for that.

Only place I've ever had a problem is when at an indoor ski centre, quite painful actually, and the only way I can get round it is by wearing goggles, which I don't tend to do unless in really, really bad conditions outdoors, I'm usually a sunglasses kinda guy.

My OH wears contacts all the time and never had a problem. We were skiing in Lapland in -22 last year with no ill effects at all.
