It is seriously time for a new set of boots, but I'm having massive trouble finding a qualified fitter who I can rely on to set me in some new ones. I'm looking for someone anywhere in the Southwest (so that follow-up tweeks won't be too difficult) with a good reputation and who carries at least 5 different manufacturers who I can try out. I would love some suggestions. Thanks!!

I don't have any personal experience but you could check these people out:

I'm sure someone will be along soon who'll be more help.

South West covers a big area so difficult to pin point where is best for you.

Devon Ski Centre in Newton Abbott is my choice. Small basement shop in a back street but packed with gear and knowledge.
All the staff are skiers and really know their stuff. Bought mine and OH's boots from them last season. If you can, try to go midweek or in time for opening at a weekend. They are very popular and it can get a bit squashed in the shop on a Sat or Sun. www.devonski.co.uk

If you want a bigger name there's Slush & Rubble in Bristol. They're in the Filton area close to the airfield. Website best for directions.

Possibly too far East but Filarinskis did an amazing job of getting my wifes boots to match the 'odd' outline of her feet.

Team Ski are probably ok. I work in the same town as Team Ski but would still choose Filarinskis.

Best bootfitter I know is Colin Martin at www.solutions4feet.co.uk
Last time I was there I had to wait while he finished dealing with a member of the GB ski team. However he is based in Bicester, but you could combine a visit to Bicester discount designer shopping village.

Why not wait until you're actually skiing and in a resort? Surely, it's better if you can try them out and go back to the shop the same day to get them adjusted? The alternative is to buy them in the UK, go on your ski holiday, find they're not right, ski in them for the remainder of the holiday, come back, return to the shop, get them adjusted, and then repeat the whole process.

This sounds very logical until you witness what some resort shops will do to get a sale. My fella was measured in the UK and told which boots to go for. We tried to buy some in Engelberg, and the shop did not have the right size or model, so were attempting to fit him into a pair of womens boots 2 mondopoint sizes bigger.

As an end user, if the boot feels comfy in the shop you can't tell if the shell is too big until several weeks skiing later. So, lots of repeat visits to the same resort, which may work for some folk, but not all I suspect.
