E mailed a company in La Tania for prices of the following
1 st child 14 yrs- skis and boots
2 nd child 14 yrs- skis and boots
3 rd child 15 yrs- skis and boots the 3 kids will be adult prices
2 adults - ski
was quoted 493 Euros  thats with 35% off so rang Neilson and they can do that for £342 :P and get this I get the skis from the same shop!!!
Looking at the small print they charge 10 Euros for the ski poles for the week . 20 Euros for helmets, in Italy you got the helmets free if you rented all your ski gear from the ski shop.
Equipment prices rip off

I brought Little W a helmet at a cost of £20 so far she has had three ski trips and it looks like it will fit for next year, so you have the answer for that one, I guess shop around for the rest and see if you can beat the Neilson price, or find a cheaper area to ski. 8)
Sounds a good deal. What dates are you going / with who / and what accommodation. I could be interested. We do have our own gear - but not helmets - yet...

Have you thought about buying? Although it will be slightly more expensive than hiring at first, it won't be much more and it will pay off after a couple of seasons.
I don't mean going for the latest and greatest skis on the market, that would cost a fortune. Try to find a place that sells new skis a few seasons old, or check out ebay. I have seen old Rossignol B2's for 100 $ in the US. Be carefull when buying to be certain whether the skis come with bindings or not.
Very few ski hire places carry the latest models, and when they do, charge a premium. So you will end up with better gear than you would get from the ski hire place. Poles can be picked up very cheaply.
You can still hire your kids boots and have them fitted to their own skis properly by the rental shop.
Buying skis needn't be expensive.

Helmets are compulsory in Italy for kids but they are still an option in France (i think) so that could be why they were free!

Kids keep growing so will not use the ski gear to much if we bought it tbh & we just could not afford it for all 3 of them.
As for going some where cheaper we have looked. La Tania offered cheap accomadation which most reviews showed as very good. Accomadation right next to the lift. We got an 7 people apartment for the 5 of us and the cost was no more than the 5 birth (got 3 teenagers, nightmare). Loads of snow machines just incase the snow isnt to good. Only 2 days off school and its an important time for all of them with exams.
