Help identifying Skis

Christian1213 posted Apr-2009

Hey there,

I've recently acquired some skis that have been knocking around our family garage for ages.. and the fact is I don't have a clue what model/brand they are etc. I tried googling HP-Comp etc, with absolutely no avail. I'm trying to get rid of them, but don't have a clue about them- so can't!

Here are some pictures- hopefully one of you lot might be able to help me identify them!

Thank you!

They appear to be made by K2

Thank you very much Pablo. :) Any chance you can tell what kind of ski they are? E.g cross country, etc. They are 2M in length.

They look like normal alpine skis (just assuming from the bindings).

So we have this so far:

K2 alpine skis.. no doubt other folks will have more to add!

Ian WIckham ( a regular j2ski poster) was around when skiing was invented so he might have something to say

They look like old K2 bog standard piste skis. circa 1985. If you want to get rid of them I suggest the tip!!!!

i reckon they will be fairly old skis-back from the days when there were no carvers and skis were that long!
probably just standard downhill alpine skis-wouldnt say they are cross country or anything

Ahhh right.

I was going to eBay them with my very limited knowledge of skiing- but perhaps now I wont!

Thanks again for replying!

Its often easier to date older skis by looking at the bindings. Marker M46 was circa 1993 from memory. I'm afraid they are worth next to nothing.

Years ago a friend of mine worked in a ski shop workshop. He was called out into the shop by the manager one day and asked if he could do anything with an old pair of skis that a customer had brought in for service. He looked at the skis and then at the customer and said "Well, I suppose I could cut 8 inches off the back of them"

The customer looked a bit shocked and asked if that would make them ski better. My friend looked at the customer and said "No, but it'll make them fit in the skip better.
