Hi,

I don't have much ski experience but I do love it and tend to go for 1 week every year...

I was planning to go to Avoriaz on the 6th of March, but then I've seen that the forecast sais it's going to get warm on saturday.

http://www.j2ski.com/snow_forecast/France/Avoriaz_snow.html

Does this mean that I have the chance of skiing on bad icy snow or just a mushy muddy one? Should I prefer going to a higher site such as Les Arcs for example?

What are your thoughts on this?

I appreciate your help...

It is getting warm but probably not warm enough for you to be concerned!

Generally this means that the snow will soften a little over the course of the day and get hard when it really cools down over night.. rinse repeat.

Personally I love the soft snow created by warmer temperatures and would take it over hard packed pistes at higher levels.

They're reporting a 2 meter base on the lower slopes at the moment... so if you want mud you'll have to dig for it!

What Pablo said - "Spring skiing" is great; may be some rock-hard stuff first thing but it soon softens up. Doesn't look as if it's going to be that hot in any case... relax; you'll be good.

I went as late as the 3rd week in March last year and we had no snow for a few days and it wa still amazing boarding, i would def say go for it, its so much better on soft snow being ablt to carve it up.

And it could always get cold again and even snow some more... I'm in Les Gets on the 13th so I hope so... but Pablo is right, there would have to be some molten lava for 2m of snow to evaporate (wouldn't it??)
Yeah, I knew that.

Or the infamous Foehn but seriously.. the chances of it disappearing are probably very close to nil.

Thank you all for your answers! We are flying on the 6th to Avoriaz.

At the moment J2Ski sais it's going to be all stormy next week, while snow forecast sais it's going to be nice and sunny. Who's right? :)
