Wondered if anyone knew if following a couple of incidents in Austria if helmets were know obligatory for all (snowboarders and skiers) in Mayrhofen.

Whether people think its a good idea or not, that is complete and utter nonsense. Mind you, I am glad the woman who careered into me 2 years ago in Mayrhofen was wearing a helmet when she landed on her head.

Ski Helmets will be compulsory in Lower Austria (which does not include Mayrhofen) from 1st March... http://www.j2ski.com/ski-chat-forum/posts/list/5408.page

Was skiing in Mayrhofen at Xmas and no helmets were not a requirement. Not even at ski school for beginners I noticed.

I heard that children renting skis and boots etc in Zell am See will be given a helmet as part of the package, although I dont know if they have to wear it ! I suppose it will be incorporated into the price . I will try and find out more.
