Hello,

Can anyone please tell me how easy it is to ski from Les Carroz to Flaine? Are the pistes well signed, and what time should I leave Flaine so that I don't get stranded on the way home?

Many thanks,

Skimac

Hi,
It's easy to get from Les Carroz to Flaine. How long it takes depends on how good a skier you are of course.
It should only take you 40 mins tops I'd say, as long as the slopes and lifts aren't too busy. and you keep a steady pace. Bear in mind tho that you have to catch a gondola out of Les Carroz and that might be busy.
Coming back is easy too, allow a least the same amount of time but bear in mind you won't be the only ones going that way, so could get busy.
The lift out of Flaine is a nice 8 man chair.

The pistes are well signposted. I love the Grand Massif. Enjoy.

In my opinion the runs are not that well signed and it can be a bit confusing You have to go up the Grand Vans lift and take a left down the dolomie run to the little corbalanche chair then follow the signposts to Carroz nice run down but there are 2 ways and one was closed due to lack of snow 2 weeks ago so make sure if they are both open but there are signpost directing you to each resort along the way but I would definitely take a map as it can be confusing....

It's not difficult when you've done it once or twice, but of course, always have a map on you.

If, as daved says a run is closed you may need to have to work out an alternative and then a map is a necessity.

I agree with dids about the time it would take - but that is a very minimum as you need to allow time for any hold ups that may occur.

Many thanks for the help.......If you don't hear from me by the 13th then I am going around in circles!
I have one more question, when I mentioned in the office when I was going there was a sharp intake of breath, and the words 'french half term' uttered..........
Will this area be that bad over this time, it will be the week before the UK half term starts?
Thanks,
Skimac.

take a look at http://about-france.com/school-holidays.htm

it's not just France, most of Europe has holidays in Feb., it can't be helped if you've got kids I guess  It wouldn't be my first choice of a time to ski and I try to avoid the crowds if I can.

We were there over New Year and the worst queues on the links were 15-20 minutes, and NY is normally at least as busy as February.
