The mostly settled weather of the past week is about to change...
Weather and Snow Next Week
A series of weather systems will cross The Alps over the coming week, in a complete change to the cold and clear conditions prevailing for much of this month so far.
Wetter, warmer air will push in from the West over this weekend - with the North Western Alpine area in the immediate track. Light cloud on Saturday will give way to stormier conditions on Sunday. Initially temperatures will rise to bring rain up as far as 1500 metres, with snow above of course. Precipitation is likely to be quite heavy from late on Sunday through into Monday.
Subsequently, temperatures should fall quickly below the seasonal average (by early next week) - with successive bands of snow falling to progressively lower levels.
Although it's outside the reliable time-scale of the forecast models, there are strong indications that further snow will follow over the following week - perhaps through the rest of the month. We expect our Powder Alarms to be popping this weekend (have you set yours?) and we'll be on the case (and on the snow)...

Where?
Oh yeah, you mean "North of Milton Keynes"!
Oh alright then... forecast dancing around a bit but looks like being usefully cold by Sunday night, snowing from Sunday through Monday and Tuesday and...
Yes but no but yes, as occasionally happens up there (I'm told), it may be a tad windy until early next week... if it calms down then the hills could be in for a bit a pasting by mid-week.
The best place to look for Scottish conditions is, of course, the venerable WinterHighland website.
We'll keep our fingers crossed for you... 8)

Thanks for the good news - now looking good for my trip to Alpe D'heuz on 31 January  . I was a bit concerned today when one of the forecast sites was forecasting rain up to 1,850m  Hopefully any damage that does to the lower slopes will be remedied by later snow and blue skies will arrive around the 31st (being a bit greedy am I?)

Wanderer,
I love skiing in the rain.
The slopes are empty. No lift queues. No queues for lunch.
The skiing is like fresh snow, mmm it is better to have fresh wax.
Given that I choose to ski in a lower alpine resort, I take comfort and strength from the benefits that rain brings.
The subterrain temp has been sub zero for several weeks. The base is stable. The piste machines will do their work. Then the base will freeze. This will leave a base of ice. Gosh, I have used the word, don't tell my wife!
Then it will snow, day after day. Yum yum.

Skiing in rain is s h i t e. You get drenched and ultimately cold. Mind you, regulars to N probably get used to rain on the slopes at such low altitude, so they probably pretend they like it really )

Not sure I've ever skied in the rain.
I skied through a snow cannon in Tignes once that must have had something wrong with the air/water mix. I came out the otherside plastered head to toe in a wet icy layer of slush.
I had to use my thumbnail to scrape the ice of my googles.
