Chamonix - non skier advice?

Hi

Off to Cham 22nd Jan for a long w/e, men are boarders, girls are having a board free weekend......does anyone know any spas or any advice on how to spend the day before giving in to the vey expensive apres ski!!

Lots of nice shops in Chamonix. When your feet are tired, there are loads of cafe's with rather nice patissieries attached.

Great Thermal Spa at La Fayet which is a short bus or train ride from Chamonix. In fact the train station is a 2 min walk from the spa.

The rack and pinion railway also goes from le fayet up the back of Mont Blanc and is a fantastic way to spend a couple of hours they could get off it at St Gervais for some more shopping etc and then catch it back.

ice-skating
a nice sleigh ride round the village
pedestrian pass up the Aguille Du Midi to the top?
Dog sledging!
Actual sledging! (so you can still enjoy the nice fluffy stuff!)
Snow shoe walking (like big lacrosse sticks on your feet!)

Day trip to Annecy or Geneva for "real" shopping

There's also a Casino, a bowling alley with pool hall, and a cinema.

Happy days - best place really for a non-skier, very few resorts have this range of non-skiing activities!

The train trip from Chamonix to Martigny is worth doing just for the scenery alone -

All of that sounds excellent. My OH and my mate's OH are ony skiing for 3 days out of our week in chamonix.

Have you got any specifics on the things you mentioned?

Thanks everyone for the ideas.

I think the action plan is......boys board until they drop and then meet up with us for apres ski. I've a failed crutiate ligament reconstruction hence the board has been hung up.......so my friend and I fancy a lie in (no kids etc), read our boooks, swim, spa treatment, shop, trip up the mountain - just chill really BUT as it's so expensive we're conscious that a facial could equate to about £100!

I've got a week to look into ideas given and plan the trip.
