Hi folks,

is there anything I need to think abotu with regards to buying poles?

I've tried them at a ski shop & I need to get 120cm ones but I've had about 1 week of skiing in my life so I'm not bothered about Carbon poles or anything racey.

Are they just "sticks for helping you stand up after cartwheeling down the mountain" or shoudl I be looking for them to do something?

Thanks,
Lee

The grip should be comfy in your hand when you are wearing your gloves. Avoid small grips. Try and get a pair with decent sized baskets. Too many poles these days are supplied with teeny little disc baskets which are hopeless if it snows.

You should be able to get a decent budget pair for £15-£20 I reckon.

I got my pair in Decathlon, good quality metal, great grips, strong and durable too, £25. Wed'ze.
Make sure you get the right size!!!

Can someone please tell me what size of poles one should be using? I've always hired in the past and not taken much notice of the poles...
My skis are usually 165cm and i'm 5'10"
Colin... :D

Go to a shop, flip a pole upside down, grab it beneath the basket and if your elbow is at a right angle then those are the ones for you!
